At least 17 people were killed, and 32 were injured in Thailand as a result of a strong earthquake, which the epicenter was in Mjanm (Burma) – Bangkok authorities said on Sunday. 83 people are still considered missing.

As a result of the earthquake, a 33-story skyscraper collapsed, which was under construction. The authorities use excavators, drones and search and rescue dogs to try to get out of the survivors.

– At the moment our team is trying to find anyone who can still live. The first 72 hours of searching are crucial, we must try to save those who are still alive before heavy equipment enters – said one of the rescuers.

“Many of my colleagues were killed”

A resident of Bangkok – Waanpetch Panta – is waiting for information about an 18 -year -old daughter who is one of the missing people. A woman from Saturday morning observes how the excavators search the rubble.

– Everything I can do is sit and wait. I prayed that my daughter was among those who were already taken to the hospital – said Waanpetch. She added that she for the last time she talked to her daughter on Friday around noon, just before the earthquake.

39-year-old Chanpen Kaewnoi said he was looking for information about his sister and mother working in a skyscraper who collapsed. – I saw in the news that the building collapsed, so I called my sister, but no matter how many times I tried to reach it, there was no connection. So I asked her colleague who said that he could not reach her and my mother – he said. He added that they worked on the fifth floor of this skyscraper.

A construction worker of Tun Lin Aung, who is also waiting for news about his missing colleagues, worked at the construction site when the earth shook. – Various items fell from high floors. We were terrified, we ran away – said Tun Lin Aung, a Burma citizen who has lived in Thailand for nine years. “Many of my colleagues were killed under the debris of the skyscraper,” he added.

Meanwhile, in Mjanm (Burma), the number of fatalities of the 7.7 magnitude earthly earthquake increased to over 1600 – said state television MRTV. Most damage occurred in Mandalaj, the second largest city, located about 17 kilometers from the epicenter. The buildings also collapsed in five other cities and towns, the rail and road bridge on the Rangun-Mandalaj motorway also collapsed.
