Ukrainian forces carried out the first attack using only unmanned vehicles and drones with a live view, destroying Russian positions near Kharkov, the Institute for War Studies reported.
Army Ukraine carried out their first attack using only unmanned military off-road vehicles (UGV) and live view drones (FPV), the Institute of War Studies (ISW) reported in its latest report.
The first such attack underscores Kiev's continued efforts to leverage technological innovations in ground operations, according to the U.S. think tank.
Russian positions were destroyed
The operation was carried out – according to the statements of the Ukrainian brigade operating near Kharkov – in the vicinity of a town located north of Kharkov and destroyed Russian positions.
A spokesman for the unit said that Ukrainian forces carried out the attack using several dozen UGVs equipped with machine guns. They also used these vehicles to place and remove mines in unspecified positions in the area, ISW added.
“Ukraine is also focusing on developing innovations in the production of aerial drones. The General Staff announced the completion of the test of a drone connected to fiber-optic cables, which will be more resistant to electronic interference. A Ukrainian drone manufacturing company stated that it has recently assembled a prototype of the first FPV drone made entirely of components produced in Ukraine,” the Institute noted.
