“The magic number has been exceeded.” Two records

A record number of over 30 million tourists visited Portugal in 2024, the Institute for Tourism Planning and Development (IPDT) in Lisbon announced on Thursday. It was emphasized that last year was record-breaking in terms of revenues from the tourism industry.

80 million overnight stays

According to government estimates, last year in Lisbon, tourists booked a total of 80 million overnight stays, which is nearly 13 million more than in 2023. Last year also brought record revenues from tourism, according to preliminary estimates they increased by 8 percent compared to 2023 and amounted to over EUR 27 billion.

– We expect another record to be broken this year in terms of the number of tourists visiting Portugal. We initially estimate that it may be up to 33 million people, said IPDT president Jorge Costa.
