Information on this subject was provided by the head of the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense, Laurynas Kascziunas, but he did not want to talk about details. However, he stated that it is known which countries will participate in the defense of airspace, apart from the Netherlands, which was the first to send the Patriot system to Lithuania.
Patriots in Lithuania. “We'll have some really good news.”
For several weeks in the summer, Patriot air defense systems were used in military maneuvers that were conducted on Lithuanian territory. – We will have some really good news, but I can't announce it officially yet. However, we already know which countries will send Patriot batteries to Lithuania next year – Laurynas Kascziunas quoted by lrt.lt portal. – We need to obtain official consent, but there is already a clear schedule at the military level. There are countries that will implement it, he added. At the July NATO summit in Washington, it was agreed that rotational air defense in the Baltic Sea region should be the responsibility of the Alliance's military leadership, not just politicians from individual countries. The Netherlands is so far the only country that has since brought Patriot air defense systems to Lithuania.
Lithuania systematically invests in its own security
Lithuania has been investing in its own security for many months. In June, a contract was signed for the purchase of one of the short-range anti-aircraft systems. – We are getting closer to signing another similar contract. We will also strengthen the medium-range air defense system and have another additional battery. In principle, it could protect not only military units, but also nearby cities, said the head of the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense.
