PiS has always counted on this impunity. He hoped that he would be in power for so long that he would get away everywhere – said Katarzyna Lubnauer from the Civic Coalition, deputy minister of national education, in “Kropka nad i” on TVN24, referring to the National Election Commission's rejection of the financial report of Law and Justice for 2023. Marcin Horała from PiS said that his party is not treated on an equal footing with other formations.

On Monday The National Electoral Commission rejected PiS's financial report for 2023. The head of the National Electoral Commission, Sylwester Marciniak, informed about the right to file a complaint against the National Electoral Commission's decision to the Supreme Court within seven days. He added that Supreme Court should consider this complaint within 60 days.

“PiS has always counted on impunity”

This matter was discussed by the guests of “Kropka nad i” on TVN24: Katarzyna Lubnauer from Nowoczesna and the Civic Coalition club, deputy minister of national education, and Marcin Horała from the PiS club.

– If PiS had a clear conscience, it would change the NEC's composition of judges (only judges sat on the NEC – ed.). But PiS decided, to ensure eternal impunity, to change the National Electoral Commission so that the majority (of the Sejm – ed.) elects the majority of the National Electoral Commission. PiS has always counted on this impunity. He counted on being in power for so long, that he would get away with it everywhere, that he would get away with it in the prosecutor's office, that he would get away with it in the courts, Lubnauer said.

– If something doesn't go your way Jarosław Kaczyńskilet's notice what she says – “the court is not in order, the prosecutor's office is not in order, the National Electoral Commission is not in order, the Supreme Audit Office is not in order” – she added.

– Everyone saw how you used public money during the campaign. Everyone saw how the entire country served only you in the campaign, she said to Horała.

– We are treated unequally with other formations – the PiS politician replied to these words.

– The rules for staffing the National Electoral Commission were broken. By changing these rules, we predicted that each formation would have its own representation in proportion to the number of parliamentarians, which was the implementation of the recommendations of the Venice Commission. This has been broken and Mr. (Ryszard – ed.) Kalisz, who is in the National Electoral Commission and is the main mouthpiece for receiving these subsidies, should not be there at all – argued Horała.

The candidate is “a hair” better

The program's guests also talked about the names of potential candidates who will be fielded by the Civic Coalition and PiS in the presidential elections. The mayor of Warsaw is competing in the KO primaries Rafał Trzaskowski and the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski. On the PiS side, the most frequently mentioned candidates are: Karol Nawrocki and Przemysław Czarnek.

Horała said he did not know who would be chosen as his party's candidate. – Hand on heart – I don't know, and probably literally, maybe even now, when we are talking, it may be that it is being decided – he said, referring to the meeting of the PiS leadership on Wednesday evening.

He said about Czarnek and Nawrocki that he “respects both of them extremely.” – But if I absolutely have to choose, I think that Karol Nawrocki is literally a hair's breadth better candidate if I chose him. But if it is Przemysław Czarnek, I will support him with the greatest pleasure – he said.

When asked why he thought Nawrocki would be better, he replied that “there are two reasons.” – Professor Czarnek, being on the front line of the political dispute for many years, is regularly, almost every day, thrown mud, and as a propaganda classic used to say: “throw mud, something always sticks.”

– Karol Nawrocki is a truly non-partisan man, he has never belonged to a party in his life, he is not a member of Law and Justice, he is a bit behind this current political dispute, and I think that Poles will appreciate this in the role of president – he said further Horała.

A person who “found a solution in crisis situations”

Katarzyna Lubnauer said about the primaries in the Civic Coalition that she was betting on Rafał Trzaskowski. – Because 10 million Poles have already voted for Trzaskowski (…). In 2018, Rafał Trzaskowski won the presidential election for the mayor of Warsaw in the first round, at a time when he was not an experienced local government official. Then he led Warsaw through the pandemic. He was always a person who actually found a solution in crisis situations, argued the deputy minister of education.
