An activist camp in the forest near a car factory that has existed since the end of February Tesla in Gruenheide was liquidated by the police on Tuesday (19/11/2024). As reported, the reason was offenses against public safety and order.
Environmentalists protest against the planned expansion of the plant Teslabecause trees are to be cut down for this purpose, which in their opinion threatens drinking water resources. On October 15, the Ministry of the Environment of Brandenburg issued a preliminary partial permit for the expansion.
The police broke up the activists' camp. They protested against the expansion of the Tesla plant
The police entered the camp on Monday morning, pulling a dozen or so activists from the trees. As more masked protesters climbed trees in the occupied forest, police action continued on Tuesday.
Initially, it was reported that this was about temporarily securing the area that was to be searched for remains of explosives and ammunition from World War II. However, the activists refused to leave the area.
“It was not possible to contact the organizers (of the protest) who could have influenced the participants,” a police spokeswoman told the regional radio station RBB. She added that the decision of deletion camp has a “lasting and immediate” effect. The reason for this was “the crimes that were registered on Monday, as well as the prospect that the gathering in this place is intended to permanently obstruct further search work,” the spokeswoman added. According to RBB information, all occupants were asked to leave the camp.
Tesla wants to double production
Tesla intends to double its production in Gruenheide to one million vehicles per year. Battery cell production capacity is also expected to increase from the current 50 to 100 gigawatt hours per year. It is planned, among others, construction of a freight station.
