Return of the serial hit. “The Last of Us” is a screening of the iconic video game showed with awards. The action takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. People fight with a deadly mushroom that turns them into zombies. Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey returned to the main roles in this production. We talked to the creators of the awaited series.
How did Neil Druckmann feel on the set surrounded by the scenery, which he invented and created for the needs of “The Last of Us”?
– It's completely surreal. Not only I felt it, but also my colleagues from Naughty Dog, with whom I co -created both parts of the game. I remember when this team visited me on the set and we walked around the locations that looked almost identical to those in the game. It is about the way they were built and illuminated, every detail has been preserved. Not to mention costumes or props. Secondly, I was accompanied by the pride resulting from the fact that others – as much as I – loved the world we created – indicates Neil Druckmann, game creator, screenwriter.
The second season of “The Last of Us” takes place five years after the final of the first edition of the series. Joel and Ellie found considerations, but not for long. Their relationship is experiencing a crisis, and a new, powerful danger appears on the horizon, which at first the heroes are not even aware.
It is not difficult to see how excellent chemistry combined on the pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey on the screen. How did they build such a strong relationship? Did they spend time together? They joked, had their habits?
– It's very interesting because they met when we were shooting the first episode of the first season. It seems beautiful that they met exactly when Joel and Ellie. It was obvious that they were watching each other and ask the question: who are you? They deepened this relationship exactly like serial characters. I watched them become a harmonious band. Pedro was very careful for Bella. I also saw how she began to take care of him and how their acquaintance changes. Looking at how inseparable they become, was a great experience. Chemistry between them is real. This is not artificial. It's wonderful – says Craig Mazin, director, screenwriter.
Mental health one of the topics of the next season
Pedro Pascal revealed that his serial hero would start therapy. How is the subject of mental health in the second season?
– First of all, we want to convey knowledge about the past of the characters. Who were they? How did they grow up? What made them become the people we see on the screen? It was Craig's idea to add a therapist to penetrate someone's mind. It was a way for us to start rummaging in his own past – indicates Neil Druckmann.
How did Craig Mazini make viewers who have never played in “The Last of Us” or are fans of post-apocalyptic visions, they also watch this series and can't wait for the second season?

– We thought a lot about it, because I come from the fandom of this game myself. As an admirer, I remembered how it was to experience this story – beautiful, exciting, but also terrible moments – or be surprised by the story twists. So I was a kind of intermediary for the audience and represented viewers. I thought about them all the time. My work was to create something that everyone can enjoy and engage, regardless of whether they played the game or not – says Craig Mazin.
How difficult, but also satisfying was this job? – exhausting! This is the largest undertaking I have ever participated in. It is even difficult to say. This is something I can't describe in words – admits Craig Mazin.
