Wojciech Szczęsny probably had a much different idea of resuming his sports career. When Marc-Andre ter Stegen was injured, it seemed that the Pole was brought in to naturally replace him for the rest of the season. But that didn't happen. Even though he was supposed to make his debut on October 20 in the match against Sevilla, he still only watches his teammates from the bench. As it turns out, he looks very good in training.
The Spaniards showed what Szczęsny does in training. “Doesn't lower the level”
At the beginning of November, Inaki Pena revealed what he heard from Hansi Flick. – He told me that he was very happy with me, that he trusted me, that he knew what I could give to the team and that he never had any doubts about my level. I saw him happy – he announced to “Mundo Deportivo”. The coach himself only nodded when one of the journalists asked him about it at a press conference.
Szczęsny, however, has no intention of giving up and is consistently building his form to enter the goal at the right moment. “Szczęsny is training intensively. Although, in Flick's opinion, the debate about the goal is already settled, the Pole does not lower his level in training, waiting for his chance,” the “Sport” daily reported, posting video material in which we can see several impressive interventions of our goalkeeper. You can see his great self-confidence when exercising with the bouncy wall and the fact that he has not lost mobility and motor coordination.
Journalist Xavier Bosch from Mundo Deportivo believes that Saturday's match against Las Palmas would be an excellent opportunity for the Polish footballer to debut.. “He has to make his debut sooner rather than later. He has to face Montjuic. Know at what height the spotlights can blind him and start making automatic movements, which are never the same in a match as in training,” he said.
There are many opinions that Szczęsny may make his debut for Barcelona only in January, when the team starts competing in the King's Cup. Bosch is not a supporter of this idea. “It would be incomprehensible that a goalkeeper of this stature, who is doing his last dance at Barcelona, would be sent to make his debut on a small pitch, in the second league, with artificial grass and irregular lighting, in a cold cup match. It would not be an insult, but it would be it's a football slaughterhouse,” he concluded.
The match between FC Barcelona and Las Palmas will start on Saturday, November 30 at 14:00. Flick confirmed at the press conference that Lamine Yamal will finally return to the game in this match after almost a month's break.
