A substance prohibited by anti-doping regulations was accidentally found in Iga Świątek's body.

– Iga mainly remembers that she couldn't sleep on the night of August 12. Around three o'clock she swallowed a tablet of medicine containing melatonin. He has been using it for years, on doctor's recommendation. Long time ago ago she was assured that it was safe and that the medicine did not contain any prohibited substances. But Iga gives this vial for testing and it turns out that the entire batch from which the vial comes was factory contaminated with trimetazidine – wrote Łukasz Jachimiak, a journalist at Sport.pl.

The manufacturer of the drug is a Polish company. Tomasz Zimoch, former sports commentator and currently MP for Poland 2050, submitted an interpellation to the Minister of Health – Izabela Leszczyna.

– It turns out that the drug Melatonin 1 mg – produced by LEK-AM, contained trimethidazine, a substance that is not listed in the composition included in the leaflet. Due to this situation, please answer the following questions – wrote Zimoch.

And he asked four questions.

  • – Has the Ministry of Health been notified about the situation? If so, what steps were taken to recall the defective batch of product?
  • What actions did the Chief Pharmaceutical Inspectorate take?
  • Are there any other known cases of contamination of medicines produced in Poland?
  • What actions will the Ministry of Health take to prevent similar events in the future?

According to the procedure, the Minister of Health – Izabela Leszczyna has 21 days to submit a written response.
