“The tragic end of Orłępa with an extraordinary history”

The famous Orłępie, who sat on one of the Poznań window sills and became the internet star is dead. The information was provided by the zoo in Poznań. The male's body was found in Lozere, France.

The bearded Orłępie, who appeared in Poznań last year. Sad news was passed on on May 5 by the Zoological Garden in Poznań, which referred to the message of the French Sewennów National Park.

“The tragic end of Orłępa with an extraordinary history. The majestic Orłęp, who traveled Europe, aroused admiration with his freedom and steadfast spirit. In Poland – weakened – he was noticed by the inhabitants of Poznań and surrounded by temporary care by the Poznań zoo. His story moved many. Today we say goodbye to him with sadness. Although the cause of death remains unknown, lack of signs of poisoning or a purposeful man's actions” – It was written in the social media of the Poznań zoo.

In a statement published by Park 29 April, you can read that the male's body was found in Lozere on January 20. The bird was located thanks to the GPS transmitter. Despite a series of autopsy, X -ray tests and toxicological, histological and virological analysis, the exact cause of death could not be determined.

He sat on the windowsill and became a star

Orłęp, who came to Poznań, hatched three years ago at the Breeding Center in Asters, France. There he was also released.

It is not known when the bearded Orłępie appeared thoroughly in Poland, but “revealed” in May last year. It was then as if he had never sat on one of the window sills in Poznań Winograd. The video in which you can see the bearded Orłępa quickly made a sensation on the internet. What is this bird? And what is he doing here? There were many questions. Part of the part quite quickly responded. Bearded orgarts usually do not occur in Poland. The bird had wedding rings and a special transmitter, so it was possible to determine that it was only a two -year -old individual who came from France.

The day after a spectacular visit to Winograd, the exhausted bird was found on the Warta. There, volunteers from the Eagle Protection Committee caught Orłępa. That's how he went to the Poznań zoo, where he spent two months.

Operation: Return home

When all research was carried out to determine his health, the decision was made: it's time to return home and without undue delay. Too long stay in the aviary could affect how this individual would manage again. – Preparation of such transport is a rather complicated matter. The French embassy helped us a lot – said then Remigiusz Koziński, head of the educational department and volunteering of the Zoological Garden in Poznań.

At the time of transport, Orłęp was placed in a special chest. And so Orłęp was first transported by a car from Poznań to Warsaw. He has already moved from the capital on a further journey. In Marseille, Pascal Oababi from the Vulture Conservation Foundation, which deals with the reintroduction program of sowing, received him.

– Pasacal Oababi took him to a center in the south of France, where the bird spent three more days in a special large wolier. It was a procedure that was aimed at enabling him to fly. On Monday he was released – added Koziński.

Since 2014, bearded orłęty have been included in the “close danger” category in the red book of species at risk of international nature protection union.
