Walt Disney Company fined: According to the judgment of the American court, the company will pay USD 43 million as part of the settlement lowering women's salaries. The company must also hire an expert who will implement changes to prevent discrimination.
Class action lawsuit: The application filed in California the previous July had nature of the class action. It involved approximately 9,000 current or former full-time workers Disney employees. These showed that over the last eight years they had earned a total of $150 million less than their colleagues.
Men earned more: The first to sue was LaRonda Rasmussen, who in 2019 discovered that six of her colleagues employed in similar positions he earned much more than her. Among them was a man who had less experience, but he earned money at The Walt Disney Company $20,000 a year more than Rasmussen.
The court analyzed the data: When considering the lawsuit, the court used the analysis of data on remuneration paid by the company from April 2015 to December 2022. The results showed that during this period, female Disney employees earned, on average, about 2 percent less than their male colleagues in equivalent positions.
