The Wrocław zoo said goodbye to the Himalayan bear Józia, who was one of the oldest inhabitants of this place. Józia lived there for almost 37 years.

On Monday, November 4, the Wrocław Zoo said goodbye to Józia, a Himalayan bear who had been in the zoo for almost 37 years and grew up in front of generations of visitors.

Józia was one of the oldest animals in the zoo. She was born on January 4, 1988 at the zoo and since then she has lived in the enclosure together with her sister, Całka, who is a year younger than her.

“She was one of the most recognizable inhabitants of our zoo”

“We say goodbye to her with sadness and share this news with you, because Józia was one of the most recognizable residents of our zoo. She lived with us for many years in good health and condition, but she was not immune to diseases typical of her age,” the Wrocław zoo reported.

In the wild, Himalayan bears live for over 20 years, in zoos they live for over 30 years, and the record holders live for even around 40 years.
