“There is a problem here.” Ombudsman about attacks on medics

– This is a dramatic, tragic situation that did not have the right to take place. As we know, this is not the only case, this is not the only situation when doctors, nurses meet with aggression, meet with hate, hatred – said prof. Marcin Wiącek in “Facts after facts” on TVN24.

Ombudsman He added that “it's time to think seriously about how to lead such situations not taking place in the future.” – It is extremely worrying that about 80 percent of nurses claim that they have experienced some form of aggression – he emphasized.

– In the statements of doctors in recent days I have heard that there is often a situation that the police are notified, the prosecutor's office is notified about certain acts addressed to healthcare professionals and we are dealing with a refusal to initiate or with the cancellation of preparatory proceedings – said prof. Wiącek.

He also noted that “the law is prepared to protect doctors” as public officials relatively effectively. – Although you should really think about whether this protection is sufficient. Perhaps it should be expanded – he added.

– Extremely important when it comes to liability for violation of law, about the preventive effect, it is effective enforcement of violations of law. And from the statements of the people I have heard in recent days, there was a problem here – the spokesman pointed out. He emphasized that “the fundamental problem lies in the effectiveness of prosecution.”
