Janusz Palikot and his two associates were detained on Thursday by CBA officers in Lublin and Biłgoraj. Jacek Dubois, the businessman's defense attorney, delivered on Friday, October 4that he was charged with fraud of several thousand people for the amount of over PLN 70 million. He noted that Palikot did not plead guilty.
In 2018, Janusz Palikot bought from Marek Jakubiak Tenczynek Brewery in Tenczynek. He did it through the Manufaktura Piwa, Wódki i Wina company. A year after taking over the brewery, the former MP broke a record in the history of crowdfunding in Poland – he collected PLN 4.2 million in 36 days, gaining over 1.3 thousand shareholders. The Financial Ombudsman later questioned the use of crowdfunding terminology, i.e. the so-called crowdfunding in this context.
After a few years, the company ran into huge financial problems. According to the latest reports, the company must pay back approximately PLN 84.4 million to creditors. In March this year, the District Court in Lublin refused to open accelerated arrangement proceedings. Tenczynek Dystrybucja has 3,729 private creditors and institutions. It owes them PLN 79.7 million in undisputed receivables and another PLN 11.3 million in disputed receivables. However, Manufaktura Piwa, Wódki i Wina is in debt for PLN 237 million.
