Banks will have to check whether the account owner lives in the absence of activity for five years – according to the assumptions of the project published in the list of legislative and program works of the government.
It is about the assumptions of the bill amending the Banking Act and the Act on population records. As stated in the description, the change is to enable faster closing of the so -called dormant accounts and facilitate access to funds to heirs, as well as reduce the risk of their payments to unauthorized persons.
Banks will check if you are alive
According to the project assumptions, if no activity has been recorded within five years of issuing the account on the account, the bank will be obliged to check in the PESEL register whether the account holder is still alive.
If not – the bank will also receive information about the date of its death, which will allow the start of the account to terminate the account and withdrawal of funds to authorized persons.
According to the proposed regulations, the bank will not have to apply for data from the PESEL register if the customer has more than one account, or at least one of them has been active in the last five years. The same principle is to apply in the case of bills concluded for a fixed period. The project assumptions also indicate simplification of reporting procedures – banks will be released from the obligation to provide collective information regarding expired or resolved accounts, towards which the period of archiving of the documentation has elapsed.
