The 111th edition of the prestigious Tour de France cycling race is coming to an end. Three stages before the end of the race, the leader is the incredible Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, while MichaĆ Kwiatkowski is in 46th place.
The Polish cyclist improved his position thanks to a great performance in the 18th stage, which took place on Thursday on the Gap â Barcelonnette route (179.5 km). In the final kilometers, only three riders were fighting for victory – Victor Campenaerts, Matteo Vercher and MichaĆ Kwiatkowski.
“With less than 900 meters to go Vercher broke away, but he ran out of energy, and Kwiatkowski led the group for the last meters. Ultimately, however, it was Campenaerts who played the best finish of all and triumphed in the 18th stage of the Tour de France. Vercher came second, and Kwiatkowski was third” – Kacper Ciuksza from Sport.pl reported.
This is how much MichaĆ Kwiatkowski earned for a place on the podium in the 18th stage of the Tour de France
For such a prestigious and demanding race, are the earnings for a podium place in a single stage of the Tour de France satisfactory? It is probably a matter of perspective. The winner of the stage receives a check for 11 thousand euros (about 47 thousand zlotys), and the cyclist in second place receives 5,500 euros (23.6 thousand zlotys). So how much is the third place? 2,800 euros, which is 12 thousand zlotys. Kwiatkowski also earned that much for third place on Thursday.
How much will the overall winner of the race earn? 500,000 euros (2.14 million PLN). Second place 200,000 euros (858.6 thousand PLN), and third 100,000 euros (429.3 thousand PLN).
There are three stages left to go in the Tour de France. Two mountain stages: EmbrunâIsola 2000, 144.6 km long (Friday, July 19) and NiceâCol de la Couillole, 132.8 km long (Saturday, July 20) and the Monaco-VilleâNice time trial, 33.7 km long (Sunday, July 21).
