Thomas Thurnbichler announced his decision on Tuesday. It was a big surprise, especially since Kamil Stoch has been at all world championships since 2005. It could be 11 for him. And most likely the last World Cup in his career, but this will not happen. – I talked to both him and his trainer Michał Doleżal. Kamil accepted this as befits a real master – with class and understanding. Of course, he was disappointed. Everyone would be in his place. He understood, however, that the general classification of the World Cup cannot be fooled – Austrian trainer reported.
The journalist critically spoke about the decision of Thurnbichler. “Young coach's mistake”
Thurnbichler's decision caused considerable stir in the world of jumping. Jakub Balcerski from Sport.pl even suggested that he wanted to show “Cojones” without taking Stoch. “He probably made the bravest decision during his stay in Poland. Only it seems that in the worst possible moment” – explained.
And yet the trainer could call Stoch as the sixth, additional jumper “for competition”. He did not decide because it could probably affect the others. – The coaching staff wants to create an atmosphere of work without excessive internal competition, the level of stress at such a large event is so high enough – said journalist Krzysztof Rawa in Winter Olympic magazine on Polsat Sport.
He thinks that the trainer was afraid that “the presence of Stoch would arise in the team.” “This is nonsense, she wouldn't start,” he reacted. – Sixth place and trip of the sixth jumper to the World Championships to Trondheim was logistically possible and there was no trouble with that. PZN is still a rich relationship, and the jumpers are the richest in it – he added.
Rawa has no doubt that Thurnbichler made a mistake. Therefore, even if he tries to “rebuild” trust, it will be very difficult for him to do it. – Of course he found himself, he understood that he had to invite this Stoch to the rest of the competition and would probably invite him. (…) Kamil will probably go to the last competition of the World Cup. Will something be good for Polish jumps? I think not, because this milk spilled – he said, adding that it would be “another lost season”. – I'm not optimistic. In my life, I would not dare to think that Kamil Stoch would cause anxieties or a bad atmosphere – he supplemented.
The World Championships in Trondheim will take place on February 27 – March 8. The decision of the trainer to Norway will be: Paweł Wąsek, Aleksander Znoszczoł, Dawid Kubacki, Jakub Wolny and defender of the title Piotr Żyła.
