Ukrainians attacked Saratov and Engels in Russia. A fire broke out

Reuters reports on a night attack by Ukrainian drones on the Russian cities of Saratov and Engels (both in the Saratov Oblast, about 750 kilometers from the nearest border controlled by Ukraine). The cities of Saratov and Engels are located opposite each other on the right and left banks of the Volga. There is an airport in Engels where Tu-95 strategic bombers are stationed.

The region's governor, Roman Busargin, said both cities were the target of a massive drone attack and damage to an industrial enterprise. He did not say whether the Engels air base was hit. There is no information about any injuries.

According to the online daily “Kyiv Independent”, citing reports from Russian Telegram channels, a large fire broke out in an oil depot in Engels at night. Videos circulating on social media confirm this.

City residents said they heard at least five explosions before the fire broke out. Ministry of Defense Russia reported that eleven Ukrainian attack drones were shot down over the Saratov Oblast.

In total, Russian defense was supposed to destroy 32 drones last night. Four drones were also shot down over the Kursk and Rostov regions, three over the Belgorod and Bryansk regions, two over the Krasnodar Krai and one over the Volgograd region, and four were shot down over the Sea of ​​Azov, the ministry reported. The Ukrainian side has not yet commented on the attack.

This is another Ukrainian drone attack on Saratov and Engels. Previously, the Ukrainians attacked in August last year. Then, falling debris from downed drones damaged several buildings. Russian channels also published footage showing a drone striking 38-story skyscraper in Saratov.

In the city of Engels, the top floors of a residential building were damaged. The strategic base in Engels was also the target of attacks in March last year and in December 2022.
