Most on the Strong River collapsed Wednesday afternoon. The crossing is located approximately 64 kilometers south of Jackson, Mississippi – on State Route 149 in Simpson County – was closed to traffic since September 18.
American media, citing the local Department of Transport, report that the disaster occurred as a result “accident on construction site” during demolition works. Due to the collapse of the bridge three people died on site, a four were taken to hospital in critical condition.

Reports indicate that heavy equipment was working on the bridge at the time of the tragedy seven men. Suddenly, the bridge “collapsed” and fell from a height of over 12 meters, we read. Initially, rescuers managed to rescue two people from the rubble, then the body of the third was found.
Construction and assembly works related to reconstruction of the bridge was run by TL Wallace Construction.
Mississippi Department of Transportation spokeswoman Anna Ehrgott said one of the department's inspectors was on the scene when the bridge collapsed. Victims are not yet identifiedand the investigation into this matter is ongoing. According to ABC News, other details of the accident are not yet known.
