A Southwest Airlines plane preparing to take off from the Dallas airport was hit by a missile, the airline said in a statement. Passengers were evacuated. The airline reported that no one was injured and the incident was reported to law enforcement authorities.
The incident occurred on Friday evening at 9:50 p.m. local time at Dallas Love Field airport in the US state of Texas. “Southwest Airlines flight 2494 was about to depart for Indianapolis when a projectile apparently struck the right side of the aircraft, just below the deck,” an airline spokesman said in a statement. He added that it happened “when the crew was preparing for take-off.”
“No injuries were reported. Law enforcement authorities were notified and the aircraft was withdrawn from service,” the spokesman added.
The fire brigade and police responded to the scene. The passengers were evacuated safely. There is no detailed information yet on the source of the missile and the circumstances of the incident.
