A cat from Massachusetts was very lucky when it found itself in the middle of a frozen lake on Tuesday. At some point, the ice broke under the animal. Witnesses came to his aid, jumped into the boat and pulled him out of the icy water at the last moment.

The incident occurred Tuesday morning on Nabnasset Pond in Westford County. The local police received a call from a panicked woman who noticed a cat balancing on an ice floe on the reservoir's surface. The animal was more than 10 meters from the shore and seemed visibly concerned as it paced on a small patch of ice.

At the last minute

The officers immediately went to the scene. On the way, they received another disturbing call – the ice under the animal began to crack. The cat fell into the icy water, and the police were afraid that they would not be able to get there in time.

Fortunately, two other witnesses noticed the situation. Without hesitation, one of the men got into a rowboat left nearby, and the other pushed him as far as he could into the lake. Breaking the ice floes with a shovel, the witness reached the cat and took it aboard the boat. The animal was taken home, dried and wrapped in blankets.

– After our arrival, the cat was shaking, lethargic and in shock. We immediately took him to the vet. The cat's body temperature was so low that it did not even register on the thermometer, the police explained on social media.

“A miracle from beginning to end”

Not being sure whether the cat would survive, the officers began an urgent search for its owners. In the afternoon, one of the local residents contacted them, claiming that it could be his cat Tiki, which had escaped from the house on the night from Monday to Tuesday. As it turned out, it was about this animal. The owner told the police that the cat was not only 20 years old – which is a very stable age for a cat – but was also blind.

Officers added that Tiki may have been driven onto the frozen lake by a predator and became stuck on the ice, floating on an ice floe all night long.

– This story is a miracle from beginning to end. There is no doubt that we would not have been able to save this old man, the police said.
