On Wednesday, the first voting did not bring the decision. In the evening, when tens of thousands of people were waiting for the result in Saint Peter's Square, a thick black smoke rose from the chimney, meaning that the pope was not elected. In the morning at 8 o'clock the electors will gather in the chapel of the Pauline Apostolic Palace at Mass. Then after 9 o'clock they will go to the Sistine Chapel, where they will join the next votes. If the two mornings end without result, black smoke will appear around 12.30. At 16.30 after a break for dinner at Saint Marta's House, the cardinals will return to the chapel with Michelangelo frescoes for the next two votes. If the first of the afternoon ends with the election of the pope, then white smoke can be expected around 17.30. After the second vote, black or white smoke will appear around 19.30, unless it occurs, as on Wednesday, delay.
From Thursday they will take place two votes in the morning and two in the afternoon. After 13 votes, a 24-hour break is planned.
