We say goodbye to you, mom, with love and gratitude – me, your daughter, your brother and his family, granddaughter, grandchildren and great-granddaughters. May the good God hug you to his heart” – wrote Waldemar Pawlak on social media. The post was full of comments. “My deepest condolences for the loss of such a loved one”, “Condolences to the entire family”, “Sincere condolences. Without mom, nothing will be the same,” we read. Waldemar Pawlak once held one of the most important positions in the country
The politician was a member of the Sejm eight times. In 1992 and in 1993–1995 he was the Prime Minister. In previous governments Donald Tusk (2007-2012) was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy. Currently, Pawlak is a senator. He won the seat by running from the Third Way list as part of the Senate pact. It wasn't easy. Pawlak's opponent was Marek Martynowski from Law and Justice. Until the last moment, it was not clear who would win the Senate seat. During the day, the difference between Waldemar Pawlak and Marek Martynowski was several votes each. It is worth emphasizing that in 2015 and 2019 in the Płock district, the former prime minister lost to Martynowski. The position of senator is not everything. Pawlak is also the president of the Main Board of the Volunteer Fire Brigades Association. The politician has held this position since 1992.
