Ambassador of the Republic of Poland at UN Krzysztof Szczerski pointed out, among others, attention to the extraordinary resilience and determination of the Ukrainian people in the fight for freedom and democracy.

– Main goal Kremlin remains unchanged: causing widespread power outages, the situation worsens in winter and ultimately provoking a humanitarian crisis, the diplomat emphasized.

Szczerski called Russia to stop aggression on Ukraineviolating international law and spreading disinformation. He expressed concern about support for the aggressor from abroad. He condemned especially transferring weapons to Russia.

As he added, Poland advocates accountability for the Kremlin's actions during the brutal war and supports peace initiatives based on international law. Achieving lasting peace, Szczerski said, requires rejecting the idea that boundaries can be changed by force.

– It is time for Russia to respond to the call of the international community, stop aggression and withdraw its forces from illegally occupied Ukrainian lands. Together we can help Ukraine rebuild, heal and regain its rightful place in a peaceful and prosperous Europe, said the permanent representative of the Republic of Poland to the UN.

UN Assistant Secretary-General Miroslav Jenča said that Russia's continued systematic attacks on Ukraine continue to cause enormous suffering to people and threaten global food security.

He calculated, citing the UN Office of Human Rights (OHCHR), that 11,973 civilians have been killed since February 2022, including 622 childrenand 25,943 people were injured, including 1,686 children. He considered at least 208 civilians killed and 1,220 wounded in September as the highest number of victims in one month this year.

Jenča was concerned about, among other things, attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure in the face of the approaching winter.

Russia. Is the Kremlin seeking to expand the conflict in Ukraine?

– Vulnerable groups – including the elderly, disabled and displaced people – are likely to be disproportionately affected. Many people may soon find themselves trapped in their own houses without heating and other necessary resources, warned Miroslav Jenča.

US Representative for Special Political Affairs, Ambassador Robert Wood, pointed out that Russia was attacking ships with Ukrainian grain going to Africa and the Middle East, torturing journalists and prisoners of war and seeks to expand the conflict. He also referred to the support provided by some countries to the aggressor.

US Ambassador: Russia will not maintain its aggression without help

– Russia cannot maintain its aggression without help, which means that this war will end if Iran and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea will cease providing military assistance to ita China they will stop transferring dual-use components. These partnerships exacerbate threats to peace and security beyond Ukraine – not only in Europe, but also in the Indo-Pacific, the Middle East and Africa, Wood emphasized.

Recall, the UN Security Council consists of: 15 members (five permanent and 10 non-permanent). Russia is one of the former, which is why it can constantly block any resolutions on Ukraine. It is valid in the Council veto power.
