Newsweek journalists write about a secret “operation plan in Germany”. The document, as confirmed by the spokesman of the Bundeswehr Home Defense Command in Berlin, is currently being developed based on the current international situation and capabilities of the armed forces of the Alliance countries.
Although the details of the provisions are not known, it is known that the document is to contain primarily plans for the transfer of NATO countries' contingents. The assumptions refer to the relocation of approximately 800,000 soldiers and 200,000 vehiclesThe process is still to take place before the start of a possible Russian invasion on one of the NATO countries located on the eastern flank of the alliance.
– Ability to quickly deploy large NATO military contingents on the eastern flank of the Alliance in the event of a deterioration of the security situation is the main pillar of conventional deterrence, the spokesman said in an interview with journalists.
– The “Operation Plan for Germany” specifies the requirements for the Bundeswehr and the requirements to be met by other state and civilian entities in the field of defense (…) For reasons of military security we can't go into any details here” – added.
The task of the Bundeswehr troops is to ensure, among other things, supplying the armed forces of allied countries. We are talking about constant logistical and medical care.
NATO Defense Plans: Germany Prepares Logistics
As experts emphasize, German planners, together with colleagues from other NATO countries, must develop a plan deployment of gigantic forces along the A2 motorwaywhich stretches from Oberhausen in the west to the outskirts of Berlin. The nearly 483-kilometer route will be the main route used to transport equipment and troops.
There is no doubt that the route and several key bridges will become, in the event of an armed conflict, the main targets of Russian attacks.
– Planning takes into account not just one motorway as a traffic axis through Germanybut also many other federal roads – explains the military officer, adding that first of all, it is necessary to develop responses to the actions of Russian troops that will try to delay the transport of equipment to NATO's eastern flank.
