Meteorologists explained that the influx of moist air from the Mexican Bay towards the valleys of the Mississippi and Ohio rivers, bringing heavy rainfall and catastrophic flooding. “Generational” floods will be threatened by Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Mississippi and Kentucky from Wednesday. The situation is hindered by the fact that in many of these states cleaning is still underway after the previous ones storms.
Thunderstorms will pass over these areas many times, bringing with them daily rainfall sums from 50 to 75 liters of rain per square meter. Over 380 l/sq m is expected to fall until Saturday in some regions. – This is more than the average rainfall for the whole spring in this region. In Paducah, Kentucky, where extremely heavy rainfall is expected, in the period from March to May the long -term value does not exceed 370 l/sq m.
“If the forecasts come true, this will be likely to be a historic event in the form of rapid instant floods,” NWS warned.
Tornado warnings
According to the Storm (SPC) prediction center, a warning against tornadoes in parts of Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas applies to the early Wednesday morning. The 2022 study showed that the night tornadoes are almost twice as deadly than occurring during the day.
CNN emphasized that the upcoming heavy rains are not the first period of extreme rainfall this season and probably not the last. These phenomena are increasingly occurring as a result of global warming, and an increase in temperatures is conducive to extreme weather phenomena.
This year, in the period from January to March, storms generated over 3,200 applications about tornadoes, hail precipitation and destructive wind gusts throughout America.
