Warsaw. Activists from the last generation invaded the horse racing track. Judgment

The court conditionally discontinued the proceedings against activists from the last generation, who in April last year disturbed the start of the horse racing season at the Służewiec track. He also ordered them to pay PLN 500 to the victim Aid Fund and Post -Penitentiary Assistance.

On the track of horse races on April 20, 2024, two activists in orange vests jumped over the fence and ran on the track just before the first race began. They had a banner with them with the inscription the last generation. They also scattered the orange powder. The protection took them from the track and notified the police.

While maintaining safety rules

The case went to court. On Thursday, the first and last hearing took place. During it, the activists did not admit to committing the alleged act. They indicated that it was not a simple invasion of the track, but a thoughtful protest against the climate crisis and transport exclusion. They assured that they protested with safety rules, and their action was aimed at publicizing the actions of the last generation.

– I am afraid of all of us, because we are threatened with a disaster that is hard to imagine, which will grow, and this year it brought four times more fires than in the same period last year – said one of them.

When asked by Judge Katarzyna Dąbrowska, why they did not protest in a place intended for the audience, they said that “media attention was directed on the hippodrome” and they want to publicize this problem.

“The court gives you a chance, but …”

Then the activist's defender gave the final speech, after which the court ordered a break, and after it announced the verdict. He decided that the activists had exhausted the features of the offense of the Act on the safety of mass events, but conditionally discontinued the proceedings for a year of rehearsal. He also ordered activists to pay PLN 500 to the victim Aid Fund and Post -Penitentiary Assistance.

In the justification, judge Katarzyna Dąbrowska pointed to the circumstances of the act, motivation, the intention of the accused and their young age. – The court gives you a chance, but do it to follow the legal order – the judge emphasized. The verdict is unlawful.

The last generation referred to the court's decision on social media. “Today we won in the case for the race. On Monday we are counting on a victory for the Couple of the Warsaw Mermaid. The trial will take place at 9.00 in court on Marszałkowska 82 in Warsaw” – they wrote on Facebook.
