New residents have arrived at the capital's zoo. These are two pairs of crowned parrots. They are among the smallest parrots in the world. They rest and sleep in a specific way. When it comes to food, they will not disdain fruit.
Two pairs of young birds that do not yet have a visible “crown” made of blue feathers on the top of their heads have arrived at the Warsaw Zoo. They came to the capital from the Leipzig Zoo.
“Currently, the new residents are getting used to the conditions, but from next week they will be available for viewing in one of the aviaries in the Aviary pavilion,” the zoo said.
One of the smallest in the world
The greenish birds are among the smallest parrots in the world. They have a distinctive blue spot on their head, as well as orange legs and a black beak.
In the wild, they inhabit the dense forests of the Malay Peninsula, Borneo, Sumatra and several nearby smaller islands.
Hanging beetles often rest and sleep hanging upside down. Their favorite foods are sweet fruit, nectar, and pollen.
Crowned lop-eared lizards are the latest new residents of the Ratuszowa Street Zoo. Several new animals have also been born there recently, including: snow leopard, armadillo or the yellow-tailed finch.
