They sang the national anthem and set off. The 34th Independence Run has started. Drivers and passengers of public transport must take into account traffic disruptions.
At 11:11 sharp on Monday, the starter gave the signal to start the 34th Independence Run. Participants run along Jana Pawła II Avenue, Chałubińskiego Street, Niepodległości Avenue, and Prosta Street.
Organizing the event involves closing these streets to traffic. The main restrictions apply from 9.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. However, preparation of the start and finish required a longer closure. The section of Jana Pawła II Avenue from the “Radosława” roundabout to Anielewicza Street will be impassable from 3 a.m. to 7 p.m. Public transport will also make detours.
They run over several distances, and a virtual edition is also planned
This year, participants take part in the main race over a distance of 10 km, Nordic Walking over a distance of 5 km, and in a race for youth aged 10-14 over a symbolic distance of 1,918 meters. For those who cannot take part in the event in person, a virtual edition is planned, which allows everyone, regardless of where they are, to participate in this unique initiative.
The race is accompanied by a unique setting – participants created a living, white and red flag, and Marshal Piłsudski in a historic limousine and military reenactors from 1918 introduce the historical atmosphere of the event.
Before the start, all participants sang “Mazurka Dąbrowski”. Last year, as many as 14,000 participants took part in the race. The organizers of the event are the Capital Sports Center Active Warsaw and the “Warsaw Marathon” Foundation.
