In connection with the construction of a line on Rakowiecka, the tramwajar will soon close some of the Aleja Niepodległości. Difficulties will affect both drivers and communication passengers. For over two months, the desire and Italy will lose the tram connection with Śródmieście. In the summer, spectacular works were also planned at Zawiszy Square.
Warsaw trams have concluded a contract with KZN Rail (Grupa Bieżanów) for the renovation of the turnout node on Zawisza Square with stop platforms.
– This will be the first such renovation in Warsaw, and when it comes to scale, the first renovation in Poland. We will use monolithic large -format prefabricated, made to size. I was in Krakow, I saw a fragment of Zawisza Square is already made by the reinforcers. Amazing view – said Konrad Niklewicz, vice president of Warsaw trams during a Wednesday meeting with journalists.
In Krakow, they produce plates of Zawiszy Square
Where did the decision to use an innovative method? – Zawiszy Square is one of those places that are very burdened with traffic, including a truck due to various types of buildings that are happening in the area. The solution from bituminous masses in such conditions works poorly. It lasts two or three years, after which holes, performances, unevenness are made. These types of intersections should be made of concrete, which will withstand decades – he argued.
Concrete, however, has a significant disadvantage, sets about 30 days, only after such time it reaches full strength. Closing this communication node for a month would mean a paralysis that the city could not afford. Hence the decision to order prefabricated elements at the Krakow factory.
There, fragments of Zawiszy Square, individual puzzles, which will be transported (probably by rail, then trucks) and put on site are created on the large production table. The elements are several meters long, each weighs about 20 tons, but – as Niklewicz noted – they must be produced with great precision as to a millimeter.
Technology will reduce the closing time of individual inlets from month to week. The works are scheduled for July and divided into three stages (one for each thread and traveling through the tracks). A detailed schedule is just being created.

Great difficulties in Aleja Niepodległości
However, there are some difficulties in Mokotów, which will start this weekend. They are related to the construction of the track on Rakowiecka.
– On April 26, we close the western road of Aleja Niepodległości at the height of SGH and the West inlet of Rakowiecka. Then the preparations will start, and in the next days the construction of the turnout node itself – announced the Vice President of the Warsaw Trams. – This means big changes for road and public transport users in this part of Warsaw. Two lanes will be preserved towards the center, driving from South Mokotów and Ursynów. However, only one lane for buses, entitled vehicles and people commuting to the western side of Aleja Niepodległości will be preserved the other way. Other drivers going to the south will be invited to Batory Detours – added Niklewicz.
Closing the western road of al. Independence will last until the turn of July and August. Then the work will move to the eastern thread and give it back only at the end of the year.
The works also mean complications for tram traffic. To minimize their effects, the work was divided into four stages. – In the first, planned for the picnic, there will be a suspended tram traffic between the Nowowiejska and Woronicz stops – announced the representative of the TW. At this time, trams will mount the overlay switch over the Pole Mokotowskie metro station (it will allow two -directional compositions to turn back), renovate the turnout at the Kielecka loop and the track at the intersection of Wołoska and Kulski.
Closing traffic will also give firefighters the opportunity to conduct exercises involving the Hyundai tram, which will be raised. A simulation of an accident will be performed as a result of which the pedestrian was under the vehicle.
In the second stage of work – from May 5 to the turn of July and August – the movement between the Metro Pole Mokotowskie and Kielecka stops will be suspended.
In the third and fourth stage (August), the trams will not again go between the stops Nowowiejska and Kielecka, and for several days between Nowowiejska and Woronicz. Then the track will be renovated at the intersection of Aleja Niepodległości and Avenue of the People's Army (next to the Central Statistical Office).
– Trams will return to their old routes, without any breaks, in September. And when it comes to the new tram route on Rakowiecka, we will launch it by the end of the year. We mobilize the contractor so that it happens as soon as possible – declared Konrad Niklewicz.
An interesting fact for public transport fans will be that trams traveling from Służewiec Przemysłowe will turn back to the Kielce loop, which is used to turn back in the opposite direction. This maneuver will not only be done by two -way vehicles.
Grójecka and Aleja Krakowska without trams
A lot will also happen in Ochota in connection with the construction of a line to the Western Railway Station.
– We are fast approaching probably the biggest tram difficulty this year in Warsaw. At the turn of May and June, we must start the most important stage of the reconstruction of the intersection of Grójecka, the Battle of Warsaw and Banach, which means that we will have to close the tram traffic in Aleja Krakowska and to Banach. In the first stage, which will last two months, the tram will only reach the Och Theater stop – said the Vice President of TW.
This change means that the entire further section of the line on Okęcie, up to the P+R Aleja Krakowska stop, will be turned off. – In the second stage, in August and September, we will have to stop the tram traffic also on the section between Narutowicza and Banach Square. – The whole episode will be thoroughly renovated by our own plant. Some episodes of the track are 30 years old here, so much they were not renovated – explained Konrad Niklewicz.
Trams will return to Grójecka and Aleja Krakowska at the beginning of October, and for Banach probably only next year.
Works in Stegnos and the border of Śródmieście and Żoliborz
On Saint Boniface Street, the branch of the tram line to Wilanów is under construction. – We are close to the finals, the traffic will be opened in summer, we do everything we can to be July, but the construction proved that it can surprise – admitted Niklewicz.
However, by the end of April, Budimex is to finish the construction of sidewalks and bicycle paths in Puławska at the departure of Gowork, i.e. in the fourth -year buried area. They are to be ready to be ready for bicycles at Goworka and Spacerowa, as well as pavements at Belwederska.
A good pace is going to work on the reconstruction of the track in Aleja Jana Pawła II, between the roundabout of “Radosław” and Plac Grunwaldzki – 60 percent of advancement with 50 percent time. – The promised deadline for completing work on the viaduct (May 25 – ed.) Will be met. There will be a siggus in the fat, but it will not be laid in September, when it is cooler, because it tolerates the breakdown in the heat. We prefer to wait – explained the representative of TW.
