On Saturday, the renovation of the track on the viaduct on the border of Śródmieście and Żoliborz begins. Works and related difficulties will last two months. One of the most burdened and damaged sections in the entire network, where there is often a failure, will undergo a metamorphosis.

The renovation will include the tracks on the viaduct at the Arkadia shopping center between the Rondo Radosława stops and Plac Grunwaldzki. Tramwajars on Saturday, March 22 will start with the works. This is the first of the series of this year's large renovations of Warsaw tracks.

The route, on which failures, which paralyze movement often occur, will undergo modernization. This is one of the most burdened sections of the Warsaw tram network: in the top, within an hour, 60 trams in one direction pass it. The last renovation of the track was undergoing in 2002.

– Currently, there are numerous speed limits (10-20 km/h on each track), which affects the comfort of traveling and traveling time – said the spokesman for Warsaw trams Witold Urbanowicz.

Speed ​​limits will disappear

– Robots will start with dismantling the tracks along with prefabricated foundations – up to the viaduct structure. Making the waterproofing of the object and the arrangement of new prefabricated plates are the next stages of work. Then the works will include the installation of rails and compensatory devices (expansion joints) and flooding of infrastructure elements with resins – said Urbanowicz.

After the renovation, there will be no speed limit on this section, which will reduce trams' travel time.

Robots will force a break in running trams along al. John Paul II and Popiełuszko on the section between stops Metro Marymonti Radosława roundabout. Complementary tram lines

Trams will be maintained along the entire length of ul. Broniewski – to the temporary tram stop in the area of ​​pl. Replacement communication and additional bus lanes

To the roundabout of “Radosław” and the trams and buses stopping there will bring buses of two replacement lines – Z17which will travel from Słowackiego Street to Stawek (Metro Marymont, Popiełuszki, Al. Jana Pawła II) and Z33 from Włościańska to the roundabout “Radosław” (Włościańska, Broniewski, Al. John Paul II).

During work to facilitate bus driving on ul. Broniewskiego – on the section from the trip behind Elbląska to Matysiakówna – a temporary bus lane for buses going towards the center will be marked out.

– Its introduction will be associated with the temporary removal of islets and asles in the middle of the street, as well as several dozen parking spaces between Krasiński and Matysiakówna – said Urbanowicz.

At the intersections with the streets of Braci Załuskie and Krasiński it will be possible to turn as before, but the first of them will be temporary traffic lights. Work on changing traffic organization will start on March 18, and new solutions will apply from March 20. In addition, one of the belts to Grunwaldzki Square will be fenced on the day of assembly of the overlay.

Changes in the organization of traffic will also be introduced on the viaduct during al. John Paul II. From the “Radosław” roundabout to Grunwaldzkie Square, drivers will have two lanes at their disposal at each side. The third belt, coming out of the viaduct, will “recover” in front of the “Radosław” roundabout, and at the roundabout will go in all directions as always.

The third, separate turning belt into Błońska Street will also be passable. It will be similar at the other end of the viaduct – just as there will be four lanes, including two to turn in Broniewski.

34 Renovations

This year's renovation plan of Warsaw trams includes 34 tasks. The renovation will be implemented from March to October.

– Most of the works are focused in the summer, when traffic on the streets is smaller until trams are used by about 15-20 percent less travelers. However, it is not possible to carry out all planned works only in the summer. For example, as early as in May, work will start at Bankowa Square, and in June on Słomińskiego Street – explained Urbanowicz.
