A group of about 15 activists from the Last Generation sat on the roadway between Żurawia and Wspólna Streets. They brought banners and signs with the names of municipalities that have problems with access to water. The blockade is causing delays in several bus lines: 131, 519, 520, 522 and 525.

A series of civil resistance actions

On Wednesday, activists showed up for the same purpose the Świętokrzyski bridgeand four days ago on Jana Pawła II Avenue. Last week they blocked Czerniakowska Street, Wał Miedzeszyński near the Siekierkowski Bridge, and earlier the roadway of Wilanowska Avenue near Galeria Mokotów.

– Our goal is the longest series of civic resistance actions against climate collapse in Poland. At the same time, we demand that Prime Minister Donald Tusk issue a public statement committing to implementing our demands, i.e. shifting 100 percent of funds from new motorways to regional public transport and introducing a monthly ticket for regional transport throughout the country for PLN 50 – explained a representative of the organization during a press conference before one of the protests.

Why is the Last Generation protesting?

Activists appear on the capital's main arteries, their happenings are usually short but exciting. They are particularly troublesome for drivers, because the actions usually take place during the morning rush hour. The inconvenienced also affect passengers of public transport.

The Last Generation is a civic campaign whose members want to force the government to start taking the health and safety of its citizens seriously in times, as they say, threatened by climate collapse. They began their activities in Poland in early March. In April of this year, they carried out several traffic blockades. They sat on the roads of the capital's bridges, but also on Marszałkowska and Aleje Jerozolimskie. They stuck to the asphalt. Usually, the blockades were immediately interrupted by the police, who carried the activists away.

Members of this organization are also responsible for pouring paint on the Warsaw Mermaid monument and disrupting a concert at the National Philharmonic.
