Warsaw. The Ministry of Science, together with Warsaw, is planning to expand the dormitories in Jelonki

The head of the Ministry of Science provided this information during the opening of the modernized “Grosik” dormitory of the Warsaw School of Economics.

Wieczorek emphasized the importance of investing in student infrastructure and announced further support for the university in this area.

– We have donated over PLN 400 million to universities just for the renovation of dormitories. There will be even more of these funds, he said.

He reminded that a draft bill regarding the Subsidies Fund is being prepared, which will enable universities to use funds for renovations and construction of new dormitories.

The minister also announced actions to build and renovate dormitories in the Przyjaźń housing estate in Warsaw's Jelonki district (Bemowo district). – We are discussing the Jelonki estate together with Warsaw universities and the capital city of Warsaw – he said and assured that the Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, supports the project. – We estimate that it will cost approximately PLN 200-300 million – he said.

He added that the project would probably be co-financed by both the city and the Ministry of Science, using European funds and funds from the Subsidies Fund. The Ministry of Science is planning to announce an architectural competition for the development of the Jelonki estate area.

– We would like it to be an inter-university project, so that students actually have their own place there, declared Wieczorek. He added that he remembers the estate from his student days. – It's an iconic place. This tradition should be maintained, he said.

When asked about what is currently happening in Poland when it comes to investments in dormitories, the minister summarized that about 25-28 facilities are currently being renovated. – These activities are undertaken by universities, which makes us very happy – he added.
