The former kiosk disappeared from under the historic shelter above the entrance to the platforms of the Warszawska Kolej Dojazdowa stop at the Czterdziestolatka roundabout. We are talking about a historic shelter above the entrance to the platforms of the WKD Warszawa ÅšródmieÅ›cie station, located at the intersection of Aleje Jerozolimskie and Aleja Jana PawÅ‚a II. Road workers announced on social media on Wednesday that “in cooperation with the District Construction Supervision Inspectorate, we managed to dismantle the remains of the kiosk pressed into the shelter.”
“The kiosk has been closed for several years. It never fit in well with the shelter, which was entered into the register of monuments in 2020,” reminds the Municipal Roads Authority in a post on Facebook.

There were two shelters, one was demolished
The Warszawa-Śródmieście stop was the final station on the Warsaw Commuter Railway route, which was established as the Electric Commuter Railway in 1927, connecting Grodzisk Mazowiecki and Milanówek with the center of the capital.
After the war, the stop was moved to a new location – at the intersection of Aleje Jerozolimskie and Aleja Jana PawÅ‚a II. This was related to the reconstruction and modernization of the access railway and the Warsaw railway junction.
In 1963, the entrances to the stop platform, located below street level, were covered with a characteristic pair of shelters. Arseniusz Romanowicz and Piotr Szymaniak were responsible for their design. One has survived to this day. The second one was demolished in 1993 along with the construction of an office and service building at Aleje Jerozolimskie 56C, to which the entrance to the cable car platform was moved. The one that survived It was entered into the register of monuments of the Masovian Voivodeship in August 2020.
