Wawer. Someone cut the birch black, a monument tree

Only the trunk survived from the black birch. A tree with the status of a natural monument was cut in unknown circumstances and taken from the forest in Warsaw's Wawra.

“In the area of ​​Mrówcza Street in Wawra, someone cut out a natural monument – Brzoza Black” – he wrote on Contact 24 reader. We went to the place.

With a small street surrounded by a forest, connecting patriots and ant for years, the unusual black birch grew for our forests. Despite the small size, she made the status of a nature monument. Now, from the monument, a trunk and a pile of branches, which the forest inspectorate cannot remove. – This is technically still a natural monument – explains the forester dr. Eng. Artur Dawidziuk from the Celestynów Forest District.

Black birch is a species found rather in North American countries, although there are individual habitats in Poland. As Dawidziuk tells us, it is not known how the specific one went to Warsaw. – It was one of the natural curiosities of our forest inspectorate – he adds.

It was thanks to this uniqueness that, despite its small size, obtained the status of a natural monument, which is associated with huge and old trees.

When she stayed, she had two more trunks with small circuits – 77 and 61 centimeters. As the forest inspector says, in recent years she has been sick and only one left, and the signs of the disease can be seen even in his cut residue.

Artur Dawidziuk assures that although both care and clippings were carried out in the close area, employees of the Leśne Services Zakłady who conducted them, were not informed several times, where a valuable tree is located. He adds that the lack of birch was noticed long after the completion of felling works, during the so -called teens, i.e. a harvest of the acquired tree.

The perpetrator may face a prison

As the press officer of the Warsaw VII Police District Headquarters told us. Joanna Węgrzyniak, a notification regarding the cut -out of a monument tree was received by the police station in Wawra. For the next week, persons were called to make a notification of a crime. They are to indicate the circumstances of the incident and possible materials (e.g. monitoring) that will help the police capture the perpetrators.

As we read in 1 paragraph, Article 187 of the Penal Code, the destruction or serious damage to the legally protected object is associated with a fine, restriction of liberty or deprivation of freedom of up to two years.
