What will the treatment of endometriosis look like? A ministry with details

Patients, requiring complex treatments due to deep endometriosis, will be able to help in special endometriosis treatment centers – the Ministry of Health announced. The ministry announced that the centers will start providing benefits in the second half of the year.

The project in this matter in April is to be sent to public consultations, and new possibilities of treatment of endometriosis in the public health care system would be available from July 2025 – he announced Health Ministry.

In the latest announcement, MZ gave details of planned changes in the treatment of endometriosis.

The concept of the ministry assumes that gynecological centers that have the possibilities of deepened diagnostics and employ a medical team with experience in treating advanced endometriosis, i.e. gynecologists, surgeons, thoracic surgeons, urologists. The centers are to ensure comprehensive patient care – in -depth diagnostics, qualification for surgery, surgery and monitoring the patient's condition after treatment.

MZ admitted that there are no centers specialized in the treatment of advanced endometriosis, financed by NFZ. Currently, care is based on gynecological clinics, which diagnose and treat conservatively unhealed cases of endometriosis with hormone therapy reimbursed by the National Health Fund.

The Agency for Assessment of Medical Technology and Tariffs (AOTMIT) will conduct an analysis and valuation of benefits for care in treatment centers. After completing the legislative work of the National Health Fund, he will sign contracts with entities that meet the conditions of the Endometriosis Treatment Center.

What is endometriosis?

TVN “Facts” reporters Magda Łucyan and Katarzyna Górniak in 2021 created a report “Your beauty” bringing what endometriosis is, what the lives of women who suffer from it look like and what they measure, seeking help from doctors. But I am also touched as a woman, as a patient, when I think that girls who are teenagers today will not duplicate the fate of many women suffering from endometriosis, even my fate, or those even more extreme, radical, waiting for a dozen or so years for diagnosis, erroneous surgery, complications, problems with getting pregnant – Magda Łucyan said on TVN24 announced by the health department. She added that “if this diagnostics accelerate, if the diagnosis appears at the beginning of their path, many of these problems simply will not be.”

Endometriosis occurs when the endometrial (mucous membrane naturally lining the uterine cavity) grows beyond the uterine cavity, in the peritoneal cavity, ovaries, ovarios. She is accompanied by pain in the lower abdomen, especially during menstruation, and fertility disorders. Even every third woman in the world suffers from her.
