Just listen to the relationship of two women to see how important anesthesia can be in delivery. They began to be used 30 years ago, but today it is still not standard. It is only for willing women. The Humanly Birth Foundation starts with a social campaign on this subject.

– The best decision in my life – says Monika Dłużniewska, Mama Arka, to decide to be anesthetized during delivery. – I found that in such conditions you can give birth to the whole football team – he adds.

Otherwise, the childbirth is remembered by a woman who was sentenced to pain. – Childbirth was dramatic for me. I remember so badly that I don't know if I could do it again – says Ewa.

The changes go too slowly, and there are still too few anesthesia – says in his campaign “Hear the voice of pain!” Humanly born Foundation.

– This is 30 years, since the moment of anesthesia began to be in delivery rooms, and we are already talking enough – indicates Joanna Pietrusiewicz from the Human birth Foundation.

To encourage hospitals to anesthetize women giving birth, the Ministry of Health changed valuations. The National Health Fund now awards the bonuses for anesthesia. It worked in Łódź.

– With us, the editor, it has more practically twice – indicates prof. Przemysław Crazukowski, head of the delivery block of the Institute of the Polish Mother's Health Center in Łódź.

“It's not a problem in money, it's about culture”

The number of such treatments is growing on a national scale – there was 14 percent natural births with anesthesia, 23 percent. The European average is 40 percent.

– It looks like it's not a problem in money, it's about culture – says Joanna Pietrusiewicz. A culture in which inadequate treatment of a suffering woman is still normal.

– As soon as I entered the delivery room, I said that I would ask for anesthesia, to which the doctor replied that we did not start with such a caliber, and I finally got paracetamol and no -spa – says Ewa.

This is not only inhuman, but also unlawful. – The hospital is required to guarantee an epidural anesthesia to a woman. (…) We are just as important in the hospital, at the threshold of the facility as another suffering person, women also suffer – notes Joanna Pietrusiewicz.

With the help of the foundation, Mrs. Ewa decided to fight for her right. – I gave up because I found that this was bureaucracy and I wouldn't do anything about it. But after some time I inspired me and I lodged a complaint to the Patient Ombudsman – he says.

Knowledge about your own rights can speed up the change

The more complaints like Mrs. Ewa, the more severe the hospital will bear – up to half a million zlotys.

– We have better legal instruments for this. If there are more applications. If it is in this hospital that it is really common, i.e. women report that there is no anesthesia – indicates Marzanna Bieńkowska from the Office of the Patient Rights Ombudsman.

– Awareness of patients that they can get help, these are the “yeast”, which cause that the awareness of staff must also change to adapt to this – indicates prof. Przemysław Schukowski.

Together with its campaign, the Humanly Care Foundation also appealed – without financial support, she will not be able to support women.

– Women, just don't get rid of such care, fight for your rights, and then we will help you – calls Joanna Pietrusiewicz.
