The Prison Service announced in Tuesday's announcement about the dismissal of Lt. Col. from the position of director of the Zamość Prison. Dariusz Bochyński. He has held this position since March this year.
Charges against officers
The District Prosecutor's Office in Zamość brought charges against two Prison Service officers failure to fulfill duties in connection with the escape from the hospital of a double murder suspect. The interrogated persons pleaded not guilty and refused to provide explanations. They face up to three years in prison for the alleged acts.
According to the findings, the officers slept while on duty, as a result of which the inmate escaped from the psychiatric ward. On October 6-7, they also left the suspect unattended in a hospital room, without protection or observation of his behavior. Additionally, they were to allow the inmate to have contact with outsiders and to refrain from conducting a cursory inspection of the inmate.
The inspection revealed irregularities
The press secretary of the Director General of the Military Police, Lt. Col. Arleta Pęconek, said on Tuesday that the completed inspection revealed irregularities in the way the suspect was escorted. – The officers did not perform their basic duties, i.e. they did not observe and protect the inmate. Additionally, they did not know who they were escorting. This inmate required exceptional protection, which they did not take into account, hence their behavior during the escort, said the spokeswoman.
Both are suspended from their duties. Disciplinary proceedings were also initiated against them and reports were submitted to the prosecutor's office about the possibility of committing a crime. – Disciplinary proceedings have already been initiated against another two officers, and they will be initiated against another six officers in the near future. It will be possible to talk about the consequences only after the disciplinary proceedings are completed, added the SW spokeswoman.
