Polish railway lines have signed a contract with the designer of the new Zegrze line – Przasnysz. Maków Mazowiecki, Pułtusk or Serock will gain a better connection with the capital. But the deadlines are distant. The contractor is over four years old for the design and acquiring the necessary consents. In turn, construction works are to start only in 2030 and take three years.
Designing the new line was entrusted to the consortium of Mosty Katowice and Arcadis. According to Polish railway lines, the project will cost PLN 32.5 million net. The contractor will prepare documentation and obtain all the necessary permits, including environmental and construction.
The contractor got up to 52 months for the implementation of the task, i.e. longer than the construction. According to the preliminary plan, field work can start in 2030 and last until 2033, but not financing is not yet provided, so these dates should not be attached.
One track and long passes
The railway line between the southern Zegrze and Przasnysz will be mostly single -track, electrified. – The use of two -track sections (called long passes) will allow trains to pass without having to wait for a long time for a train journey from the opposite side. The trains will move at a maximum speed of 160 km/h, and the travel time between Zegrze and Przasnysz will be about 50 minutes – said Anna Public -Pawluk from the PKP PLK press team. And she added that at least 14 trains a day to travel between Przasnysz and Warsaw.
There will be 12 stops on the route, including Serock, Pułtusk, Maków Mazowiecki, Przasnysz, Jadwisin, Wierzbica, Trzepowo, Łubica Superunki, Jeżewo, Kleszewo, Bure routes and braces. The platforms will be adapted to the needs of people with limited mobility. There will be sheds, benches, information boards and lighting.
– Signing a contract for the project of the new Zegrze – Przasnysz railway line is a key step in the development of railway infrastructure in northern Mazovia, which will contribute to a significant improvement in communication accessibility and comfort of the residents' travel – he advertised the investment quoted in the press release of Piotr Malepszak, deputy minister of infrastructure, which is responsible for the railway.
Three variants were considered
In the initial planning and prognosic study Three variants of the planned route are presented: yellow, pink and red. They were criticized by some experts. They pointed to too much distance of planned stations from city centers located on the route.
For example, the final station in Przasnysz would be distant from the city center – in the best red variant – by a kilometer, which can be covered in 12 minutes. In a pink variant it would be a half -hour, over a two -kilometer march. In the case of a yellow variant, the station would be 3.7 kilometers away from the center, which can be covered on average in 46 minutes.

As Jakub Szymański, head of the land management department, spatial planning and development at the Town and Commune Office in Serock, convinced us in 2022, the construction of railways near city centers “is impossible without drastic interference in urban tissue.” He argued that the approach of “introducing railways to the city center” would never gain social approval.
– In the case of the Zegrze – Przasnysz railway line, an approach was used to guarantee the proximity of planned stations to compact building complexes, but without drastic interference in educated housing estates – said Szymański.

Pink route with modifications
Ultimately, the railway company pointed to a compromise pink variant, considering it the most economically effective (estimated number of passengers to costs), but it was slightly modified.
– The W2A variant is the preferred course of the Zegrze-Rzasnysz railway line. This variant, similar to the W2 (pink) variant, differs in that in the cities of Serock and Pułtusk, the planned railway line runs along the beltway of these cities, on their west side – explained Anna Knoźwska -Pawluk. As she reserved, the final route will be determined after completing and accepting the program and spatial concept, which is planned for the first quarter of 2026.
