Wild animals are increasingly visiting cities. Recently, a city monitoring camera has registered a wolf, which walked around the PCK roundabout in Zielona Góra. – The reasons why this animal appeared in the city could be different – says prof. – We have not received any official report in connection with this situation. I can say that this animal really looks like a wolf, but no one saw it live, so nothing more can be said. We suspect that he is a young individual who has disconnected from the herd – said tvn24.pl Kamila Skołuda, spokeswoman for the Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection in Zielona Góra.

Professor Tryjanowski also points out that based on the recording itself it is not easy to state what individual he is dealing with.
– Everything indicates that the animal that can be seen on the recording is a wolf. However, it should be remembered that we would be sure of 100 % sure only after genetic tests. This is because the phenomenon of hybridization of wolves with dogs has been progressing more and more for many years. Especially in the case of breeds, which were re -isolated relatively recently from wolves. In such cases, even high -class specialists, watching only the recording, may have doubts – explained the professor.
He could look for “companions”
A spokeswoman for RDOŚ notes that such “visits” of wild animals are not an anomaly. This is normally a phenomenon, especially since Zielona Góra is located near large forest complexes.
– The reasons why this animal appeared in the city could be different. This may be due to, for example, searching for easy food. Currently, the time of dispersion of wolves, i.e. migration, is also underway. Lonely individuals move and look for partners and companions with whom they could create a pack – said the scientist.
It is estimated that there are about 370 wolves in the Lubuskie Voivodeship. – This is estimated. Due to the migration of these individuals, it is difficult to determine exactly how many there are – added Sąłuda.
