However, its main benefits lie in treating or preventing mental conditions like depression, stress and anxiety. Nowadays, finding a method to meditate with ready-made apps and soundtracks is effortless. Just shut the world out for a few minutes and relax with meditation to gain your energy back.

3.      Change of scenery

Working in a communal space becomes easily monotonous, contributing to increased stress levels. A simple change of scenery by shifting your workspace to a new location or changing a job may help break this monotony and loosen the hold of depressive or stressful thoughts on your mind. If you are a freelancer, go out and work from a park or a coffee shop instead of sitting at home all day. Gossip with your coworkers, laugh and tell a few jokes around the water cooler to feel refreshed.

4.      Take a break

Sometimes, you have a work-related problem that isn’t easily resolved. You may spend hours on it, and it may still stubbornly sit at your desk, unsolved. Sometimes, sex is the best treatment for frustration. It releases endorphins in the brain and helps you relax. An impromptu call to your partner for a quick session may even spice up your love life even more. Do not forget to take your birth control. There are medicines and different effective ways to delay your period.

6.      An ear massage

Your ear is a pressure point that can help reduce anxiety when massaged right. There is no need to go to a professional masseuse or a chiropractor; you can simply do it yourself when sitting at your desk. Rub the little pressure point in your ear for a few minutes, and you may see a de-escalation of stress your stress levels.

7.      Exercise at the desk

Exercise is an excellent way to destress and positively vent your frustrations. If you do not have the time to go to a gym when working, you can simply do a few exercises at your work desk to destress.

  • Toe raises –raise up and down on your toes. You can do this exercise sitting or standing.
  • Lunges –step a foot forward, put pressure on it and then go back. Repeat with the other foot.
  • Triceps dips –place your hands on the chair behind you and lower yourself up and down.

8.      Ignore the news and social media

Unless you work in journalism, ignore the news and social media all day because it can contribute to your stress levels. News about politics, murders, weather, and the rest of the world’s problems can quickly burn you out. Ignore the headlines and status alerts on your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat accounts. Talk with real people instead of gluing your eyes on a screen if you wish to socialise. In fact, real-time socialising can work wonders to destress you at work.
