What about the liberalization of abortion law? Who will replace Marshal Hołownia during the holidays? Monika Rosa and Piotr Zgorzelski comment

Guests of “Facts after Facts”: Monika Rosa (Civic Coalition) and Deputy Marshal of the Sejm Piotr Zgorzelski (Third way) were asked about the progress in the Chamber's work on projects of changes in abortion law in Poland.

– In consultation with representatives of the Democratic Party, we led to the situation that we agreed that the project of decriminalization of aid in abortion should be carried out in parallel with our third -way project annulling the “eugenic amendment”, which was abolished by the shameful judgment of the Constitutional Tribunal – said Zgorzelski.

It is a project submitted last year by the third way, which reverses the judgment of the Constitutional Tribunal of 2020. In turn, a parliamentary draft amendment to the Penal Code in terms of abortion assumes partial decriminalization of interruption with the consent of her pregnancy and decriminalization of assistance in independent abortion.

The deputy marshal explained that “it is about the parallel overcoming these two projects.” – And this was the consent of all parties – he emphasized.

When asked if he thinks it was possible to complete legislative work in this matter before the presidential election, Zgorzelski replied: – It is possible, I am responsible for the third way. I suspect that Mrs. Rosa will answer the same.

He added that “from the third road point of view, there is no problem to realize what we agreed on.”

– The topic of abortion returns at every meeting, women knew why they went to the elections and why they went out into the street. But there is also an understanding for the political situation – said the MP of the Civic Coalition. She added that “the choice of Rafał Trzaskowski will make every argument to the fact that Andrzej Duda will veto this law.”

– The choice of the president will change the political situation, but we are fully aware that the liberalization of abortion law in this term will be difficult – admitted Rosa. At the same time, she added: – I am convinced that together with the left and the third road we will reach an agreement on decrimination.

Since Tuesday, the Sejm Marshal of the Sejm, who is taking place in this year's presidential election Szymon Hołownia starts vacation. When asked who would take over the reins in the Sejm in his absence, Deputy Marshal Zgorzelski replied that “the case in this case is quite obvious, because it results from the personal decision of the Marshal, who, as part of the rights and regulations, always designates some deputy marshal as the first deputy.”

“Here, Marshal Szymon Hołownia pointed to me,” he said. – Mr. Marshal Hołownia took a vacation for two subsequent situations of the Sejm, and then decide what to do next – said Zgorzelski.

Rosa was asked if the Civic Coalition provides for a change in the coalition agreement, which assumes that this autumn there would be a change to the function of the Speaker of the Sejm, which – according to the contract – is to be covered by the current deputy marshal Włodzimierz Czarzastyas a representative of the left.

– At the moment there is no conversation about any change. The arrangements are very clear and here there is no indication that such changes should occur – she assured. At the same time, she noted that “presidential elections would introduce a change on the political stage.”

– positive change, the possibility of making and continuing reforms that have been started and stopped by the president Andrzej Duda. However, the situation in the coalition at the moment remains as it was when concluding a coalition agreement after the October election – Rosa emphasized.
