In the years 2021-2024, the rights to show the Europa League and Europa Conference League games in Poland were held by the streaming service Viaplay. It has been clear for a long time that the Scandinavian platform would not participate in the next tender, because it had previously announced its withdrawal from Poland in the summer of 2025. This gave other stations a chance to take over the rights to interesting games. Kacper Sosnowski from Sport.pl reported on March 30 this year that the tender for the Europa League and the Conference League was won by Telewizja Polsat.
“The games from the new season will be slightly different than in recent years, because UEFA, wanting to make them more attractive and increase the selling price, introduced modifications. Polsat would of course have no problems showing any “Polish” matches on its open channels, because it has many of them (including the main Polsat, Super Polsat, and TV4) and thus maintain the exclusivity of the product on its own. It could also grant a sub-license for these matches to another broadcaster. However, this topic is a melody of the future” – we read in the article by our journalist.
Polsat announced the purchase of rights to the aforementioned games only on July 1. – We are happy with the fantastic cooperation with UEFA and we are convinced that the Europa League and the Conference League in the new formula of the games will be an excellent product and an attractive offer for football fans – said Marian Kmita, sports director at Polsat. Now there is new news about showing matches from these games in Poland.
It is known whether TVP will show matches of Polish teams in Europe. “There are no talks”
This is precisely about the issue of sublicenses. When Viaplay had the rights to show the Europa League and Conference League games, it granted the aforementioned license to Telewizja Polska for matches of Polish teams. What will the situation look like from the start of the next season? – Polsat has its public channels, so it does not even have to talk to anyone and there are no such talks – informed Jakub Kwiatkowski, director of TVP Sport, quoted by the portal wirtualnemedia.pl.
It is worth recalling that under the sub-license from Viaplay, TVP showed live home matches of Polish teams, and away matches appeared on the air as retransmissions. And is TVP in talks with Canal+ Sport about a sub-license for Champions League matches, with the potential participation of Jagiellonia BiaÅ‚ystok, not only in the qualifiers? – We remain in contact with Canal+, but at the moment I have nothing to say – adds Kwiatkowski.
How does Polsat intend to show the Europa League and Conference League matches? Wirtualnemedia.pl writes that the matches of Polish teams will be broadcast on the main Polsat channel and on Polsat Sport, while the remaining matches will appear on Polsat Sport Premium channels.
Currently, Wisła Kraków are competing in European cups, specifically in the first round of the Europa League qualifiers. Their rivals there are Kosovo's KF Llapi, who lost 0:2 in the first match in Kraków. Legia Warsaw and Śląsk Wrocław will enter the game from the second round of the Conference League qualifiers. There, their rivals will be Caernarfon Town/Crusaders and Riga FC, respectively.
