Ukrainian soldiers have shot down a Russian drone for the first time at an altitude of 3,600 meters, Kiev media report. The drone was shot down over the Kharkiv region.

The Russian Orlan-10 drone was shot down by soldiers of the 3rd Independent Armored Brigade (also known as the Iron).

The unit said in a Facebook post Monday that shooting down the Russian drone was “extremely difficult.” “First, the altitude was over three kilometers, second, Orlan was constantly changing its direction and altitude,” the brigade said.

The enemy drone, the brigade reported, was shot down on Saturday over the Kharkiv region at an altitude of 3,620 meters.

The drone also turned out to be a killer.

“Let us recall: Orlan-10 is an extremely dangerous drone. It can fly 600 km, climb to a height of five kilometers and have a range of up to 120 km. It detects targets and corrects fire, intercepts radio communications, blocks mobile communications, 'breaks' GPS signals, drops ammunition from a low altitude,” the 3rd Independent Armored Brigade emphasized in the post.

The cost of producing one Orlan-10 can reach $120,000. It is a Russian reconnaissance drone, introduced into service in 2013, wrote the Ukrainian portal Liga.
