Mazovia prepares for downpours. “Pay attention to RCB alerts”

Due to forecasted heavy rains, services in the Mazovian province are on alert. Mazovian governor Mariusz Frankowski appeals to pay attention to the Government Security Center alerts sent to residents of threatened areas.

The voivode's statement noted that although no heavy rains or extreme weather conditions are currently predicted in Mazovia, local flooding cannot be ruled out.

“Therefore, all services are cooperating with each other and are ready to take action appropriate to the situation,” it was assured.

There may be more 112 operators

The governor asked the heads of districts to ensure constant contact between the District Crisis Management Centers and the Provincial Crisis Management Center, as well as ongoing reporting on situations occurring in their area and reporting to the governor any support needs in the districts. The governor also asked local government authorities to inform residents about the need to secure their property against possible destruction.

It will also ask the Emergency Call Centres (number 112) to increase the number of operators accepting calls this weekend.

Conference at the government level

On Thursday, September 12, the a meeting chaired by the management of the Ministry of Interior and Administration – Minister of Interior and Administration Tomasz SiemoniakSecretary of State in the Ministry of Interior and Administration WiesÅ‚aw LeÅ›niakiewicz. It was attended by: the management of the RCB, voivodes from all voivodeships, the Chief Commander of the Police and the Chief Commander of the State Fire Service, as well as representatives of the IMGW.

Also in Warsaw all city services are on standby in case of heavy rains.

– Places where flooding has occurred recently are being monitored. We are in contact and cooperating with entities that are not subject to the city – GDDKiA and Polish Waters – said Monika Beuth, spokeswoman for the capital city hall.

She noted that the city will also ask Chopin Airport not to discharge rainwater from the airport runway into the Służewiecki Stream at one time, which could result in a sudden increase in the water level in the stream.

Police officers on preparations

The Warsaw police appeal to vehicle owners not to leave their cars in places where large amounts of rainwater may accumulate, especially in lower-lying areas or underground car parks.

– In the event of a threat, traffic police officers will direct traffic, informing drivers about already flooded road sections. District police officers will also be involved in helping residents of the capital, whose task will be to warn residents of buildings with underground car parks about the threat of flooding – assures Edyta Adamus from the Warsaw Police. – Warsaw police officers are in constant contact with other services responsible for responding to any threats. These actions are coordinated by the crisis team convened in such situations by the Warsaw City Office, closely cooperating with the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways and Polish Waters.

Currently, according to IMWM forecasts, the most dangerous situation may be in the following voivodeships: Lower Silesia, Opole, Silesia and Lesser Poland.
