In Brzeg in the Opole region, the flood damage is being removed. The sewage treatment plant suffered the most. It was flooded and broke down. The mayor of the city appealed to the residents to use water rationally.

As the mayor of Brzeg, Violetta Jaskólska-Palus, said in an interview with TVN24, “the situation is serious – as in all communes where sewage treatment plants were flooded.”

– This is a problem that has been occurring for years with every flood. We are appealing to residents to use water rationally and to reduce the amount of sewage that we have to accept. The pumps are off because the treatment plant cannot operate when it is flooded. There is now a backflow phenomenon, which is causing feces to flood Oławska Street, which is below the current river level. At the moment, a pumping operation is underway there. Services are on site – the mayor emphasized.

Brzeg. Renovation of the sewage treatment plant is necessary

In Brzeg, they are waiting for the water to drop below 620 cm. Currently, it is over 7 meters. – Then we will be able to start the treatment plant. The army will provide us with equipment that will allow us to start the treatment plant – added Violetta Jaskólska-Palus.

She admitted that a comprehensive renovation of the sewage treatment plant will definitely be necessary. – Its most important elements, which are necessary to start it up, have been dismantled and secured. This is not a reason to worry. However, the sewage treatment plant building itself and part of the infrastructure will need renovation – explained Violetta Jaskólska-Palus.
