“The doctor accused in connection with the death of American actor Matthew Perry, who overdosed on ketamine in 2023, pleaded guilty on Wednesday in a Los Angeles court to participating in the illegal trade of this substance,” the AP reported.

Dr. Mark Chavez reached a plea agreement with prosecutors. Prosecutors want to build a stronger case against another doctor, Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who they believe gave the ketamine directly to Perry.

Dr. Chavez admitted obtaining ketamine using a false prescription written for another patient and that he knew the drug was intended for Perry.

Under the plea agreement, Chavez will remain free until his sentencing on April 2. He handed over his passport and license to practice medicine to the authorities. He faces up to 10 years in prison, but according to AP, the sentence will probably be much lower due to the plea agreement and cooperation with the prosecutor's office.

The second main target of the prosecutor's office is Jasveen Sangha, an alleged drug dealer, allegedly called the “queen of ketamine” in Los Angeles. The substance taken by Perry on the day of his death was said to have come from her.

Perry, 54 he died in October 2023 in a hot tub at his home in Pacific Palisades. The actor was known mainly from the sitcom “Friends”, where he played Chandler.

According to the medical examiner, trace amounts of ketamine, sometimes used to treat depression, were found in his stomach.
