On Thursday morning, Iga Świątek announced that she had a new coach. Two weeks ago, after almost three years of cooperation, the best tennis player in the world broke up with Tomasz Wiktorowski. Now we officially know that Wim Fissette will take his place.

Sport.pl was the first to report that Fissette is the main candidate for Iga Świątek's new coach

The Belgian led, among others, Kim Clijsters, Simona Halep, Victoria Azarenka, Petra Kvitova, Angelique Kerber and most recently Naomi Osaka. With Clijsters, Fissette won the US Open twice and the Australian Open once, with Kerber – Wimbledon, and with Osaka – the US Open and the Australian Open. He was unemployed only for a while – in mid-September he left Osaka, and now he is helping Iga Świątek prepare for the November WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia.

Fibak talks directly about the choice of Świątek. “There will be no controversy”

– Oh my, a hundred calls, crazy! When it comes to politics and sports, we have terrible madness in Poland. And this is no sensation. On my list, Fissette was at the very top – says Wojciech Fibak, whom we ask for a few words about Iga's new coach.

– He is an experienced trainer and a calm man with a gentle character. There will be no controversy, it seems to be a great, good choice – assures our former tennis player.

Świątek must regain what she lost at Wimbledon

What new can Fissette bring to tennis Świątek? -Not much new. His biggest challenge will certainly be Wimbledon, how to prepare Iga tactically and technically for a grass surface so that she can achieve as much success on this surface as on other surfaces – replies Fibak. – And in the short term, his goal will be to work so that Iga returns to the regularity she showed during this year's Roland Garros. Because later, at Wimbledon, Iga lost it and has not regained it to this day. Recovering it is a short-term goal, he adds.

“Iga may be excited”

One of our best tennis players in history believes that we can see the effect of Świątek's cooperation with Fissett very quickly. – In a moment we can see the effect of a fresh breath, some fantasy, because Iga can play with the wind, she can be more excited, the fact that she has a new coach can help her in the Tournament of Champions – says Fibak, referring to the WTA Finals. The expert hopes that in Riyadh we can see Iga play better on hard courts – on these tennis players led by Fissette won as many as five Grand Slam tournaments, and Iga has not been able to achieve such a Grand Slam triumph since the US Open 2022.

– Overall, Fissette is a great choice. But it is also an honor for him that he was chosen by the best tennis player in the world. So today we know one thing: that the great thing is that this cooperation took place. And let's wait for the rest, the rest is a question mark for now – concludes Fibak.
