On Tuesday, October 5, around 2:30 p.m., officers noticed a man they knew grabbing the door handles of cars parked at Orzeszkowa Street in Legnica.
Upon seeing the police car, the 23-year-old started running away. The man did not respond to the policemen's commands, so they separated and set off on foot. The fugitive ran straight into oncoming vehicles.
– The situation was very dynamic and at the same time dangerous, because the man was holding a knife and a stun gun in his hands the entire way, with which he kept shooting at the policemen – says Comm. Jagoda Ekiert from the Legnica police. At one point, the man ran into the cathedral where there were people, trying to hide there. To ensure the safety of the faithful, the police decided to evacuate the temple.

“The man was very agitated, shouting vulgar words, threatening the officers with their lives. The policemen constantly gave orders to the man to immediately throw away the knife and the stun gun, but he did not react. After a while, the aggressor with a knife in his hand abruptly got up from the bench and moved towards the policeman. “The officers used direct coercive measures against the man, effectively incapacitating the aggressor,” the police added.

During the interrogation, several grams of marijuana were found in the man's backpack. The man was arrested and placed in police custody. The prosecutor will decide on his further fate. Active assault on an officer is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years.
