The average annual full-time salary in the EU was PLN 37,900 last year. euro – Eurostat reported. If you look at the map, you can clearly see that Eastern Europe lags behind the rest of the continent.
Where in the EU do you earn the most?
The darker the color in the graphic below, the higher the salaries. The belt of the lowest wages stretches from Poland, through Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria Greece. In these countries, the average annual salary does not exceed EUR 18,212. The Baltic countries fare better, but so do our immediate neighbors to the south.
Supreme earnings in this Eurostat ranking they are – there is no surprise here – in Luxembourg. With the amount of 81,100 euros, it stands out significantly from the rest of the list. The next places were taken by Denmark (67,600 euros) and Ireland (58,700 euros). Nine countries are above the EU average. In addition to those already mentioned, there are also: Belgium, Austria, Germany, Finland, Sweden and France. The lowest average annual wages were recorded in Bulgaria (13th place). 500 euro), Hungary (EUR 16,900) and Greece (EUR 17,000). Wages in Romania are still lower than in Poland (EUR 17,739). In Poland, the average annual salary last year was EUR 18,054. The Netherlands is missing on the map – Eurostat explains that this is due to a different data methodology.
But there is one more interesting approach and here Poland fares much better – and Sweden stands out negatively (a few sentences on this subject we write graphics below).
Wages have increased the fastest in the east, with Sweden standing out
If you look at the dynamics of wages, i.e. the pace at which average wages changed last year compared to 2022, Poland is at the forefront in the EU. Our salary increased by 16.57%. It increased at a faster pace only in two countries: Romania – by 17.76%. and Hungary – by 17.46 percent Interestingly, the average annual salary decreased in only one country – Sweden – by 3.91%.
